Why I became a life coach….

Why I Chose to Become a Life Coach

For over two decades, my professional life was firmly rooted in the world of Human Resources. It was a career that allowed me to understand organizational dynamics, talent development, and the intricate dance of workplace relationships. My psychology degree provided a valuable lens, but even as I navigated performance reviews and corporate strategies, a quiet, persistent whisper always echoed within me – a desire to serve, not just a company, but the individual human being striving to find their way.

Life, as it often does, had other plans for my immediate postgraduate path. Financial realities led me to HR as a practical starting point, but the yearning to truly counsel and mentor never faded. It was a constant internal "poking," an unshakeable feeling that there was a different, more personal way I was meant to contribute.

This inner tug eventually led me back to school, exploring graduate-level counseling courses. While valuable, these studies illuminated a crucial distinction: my passion wasn't in clinical diagnosis, but in empowering individuals to proactively navigate their lives. I wanted to help people move forward, not just process the past.

This realization gained sharper focus when I bravely, perhaps a little impulsively, launched my own life coaching business in 2021 hence why you are here. The pandemic, for all its challenges, felt like a window of opportunity. But life has a way of testing our resolve. An unexpected legal setback with an acronym, coupled with the profound grief of losing a dear friend and my grandmother in quick succession, brought everything to a halt. I stepped back, not just from the business, but from everything. It was a period of intense reflection, a necessary pause to reevaluate my purpose and my path. Yet, even in that quiet withdrawal, the seed of coaching remained. My website, though "under construction," stayed afloat since 2021 – a silent testament to a future I knew I would eventually revisit.

From beginning of the pause of my life coaching business in 2021 to the end of 2023, a particularly challenging “season” that, in hindsight, was profoundly transformative. It was a season of what I now understand as mild depression. It took the honest, gentle push from a close friend – "You're just letting life happen" – for me to seek professional help.

Those sixteen months of therapy sessions were a journey of healing and profound rediscovery. It was in that space of guided introspection that I was reminded, with absolute clarity, of my God-given gift and life’s purpose: to guide others. My own experience navigating deep personal change, loss, and ultimately, a renewed sense of direction, solidified my resolve. I saw firsthand the transformative power of having a guiding light during dark times.

Today, after years of accumulated wisdom from two decades in Human Resources, a dabble into entrepreneurship, and a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, I am ready to fully embrace my calling. My experiences have woven together a unique intermingling of empathy, practical insight, and a profound understanding of both professional landscapes and personal resilience.

I believe my purpose is to illuminate the path for individuals, helping them navigate their challenges, clarify their goals, and unlock the incredible potential that lies within them. I am here to be that guiding light, helping you write your next, most fulfilling chapter.
